Maria Pera - TE WAIPOUNAMU

Maria was the Awarua Runanga representative to the inaugural board Te Runanga O Ngai Tahu and served her people in that role until recently stepping down. Maria has served as a ministerial appointed member to several boards including the New Zealand Parole Board, District Health Boards, and local Prison committees. Maria chaired the Treaty Tribes Coalition, establishing the organisation as a leading entity in the Maori fisheries sector, and Kaitahu Tai Whenua Ltd. She is also serves on Te Runanga O Ngai Tahu’s Te Aparangi committee and Ngai Tahu Seafood Board.
